1939 Tigerambles

This 16mm film was shown at the annual postseason booster club football banquet in 1939. It was part of the comical entertainment used to help honor the 5th consecutive State Championship team coached by Paul Brown. It was referred to as "A burlesque on Massillon football." Several years later metal was needed for the war effort against Adolf Hitler's nazi Germany and so film was removed from their reels and thrown away. However, thanks to coach Augie Morningstar (193 5 All-Ohio I ' team) the film was saved from its scheduled destruction. The original film is silent with just an opening title. Music and text was added in October of 1994. The piano music is by Robin (Eddie) Schumacher.

1948 Season Highlights

1951 Touchdown Town

This film was produced by Jay Bonafield at RKO studios and shown as a filler in theaters throughout the country between the main movie productions. It is narrated by Andre Baruch and deals with all aspects of one of the most successful high school football programs in the nation of this era in time. Film footage of and info about Massillon football includes the following:

1. Downtown area plus noontime rally parade through downtime.
2. The stadium.
3. The coaching staff with practice sessions.
4. The booster club.
5. The Tiger Swing Band at practice plus segments of their halftime show at the Elder game.

1955 Tiger Swing Band

6. Rose Bowl Dress Rehearsal -- Title of feature article in a company magazine called "The OHIO BELL"
7. The Massillon-McKinley football game was televised live for the first time by Cleveland station WEWS. See game film footage of the two heartbreaking punt plays that prevented Massillon from winning an eighth straight State Championship.
8. "California, Here We Come" a tune heard and statement made by many Massillonians after they were told that the Tiger Swing Band was officially ask to participate in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. The entire trip was filmed in color and narrated by Director Ford.
9. A new dimension was added to the school year book of 1955-56 [SOUND]. Actual sounds of the school year were put on a 45 RPM record with narration by Bob Shirley. The video ends with the playing of this record but with additional dimensions: photos and film footage from some of the events.

1964 It's a mad, mad, mad, mad football town

Video content - This is a film documentary about the Massillon football program that was produced by ABC news and shown on national TV in a weekly program called ABC SCOPE. It is narrated by Dave Jayne and was filmed during Beat McKinley week. The intent of the SCOPE program was to look at what made the football program so successful as Dave states near the end of his opening comments when he says "Why has football been so successful here and what affect has this success had on the town, on the school and on the players....". 1986 TIGERTOWN

This is a documentary about the relationship between the citizens of Massillon, Ohio and the towns only high school football team - The Massillon Tigers. The teams continued gridiron success over the past 54 years from 1932 has become a trademark for the name Massillon with thousands of 'supporters and some malcontent individuals who do not support the importance of football to the city. The video deals with both sides of the importance issue (good or bad) using live dialogue from individual persons along with original sounds. Narration is not used to guide you from scene to scene. It is a commercial video and therefore not available for purchase but listed here only as a reference.

1988 Season Highlights

Radio broadcast play-by-play is by Dave Sheetz & Chuck Utterback.
This video tape was produced by the Massillon Football Museum for the express
purpose of preserving and sharing with all football fans the memories and excitement
of the 1988 gridiron season. Recorded for posterity are three major events:

1. The hiring of head coach Lee Owens.
2. The first overtime win ever against arch rival Canton McKinley.
3. The last season with natural grass at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.

Video contents - A new coach can often generate an air of excitement when he has that special charisma, a new popular offense and the right quarterback. Those three ingredients along with his magical charm allowed coach Owens to get off to a fine 7 and 3 record with high anticipations for next year. Many of the fun times this sports year brought to the fans were captured on video and edited into this highlight production. Some of the more memorable times that are seen are as follows:

1989 Lights, Sound & Turf (Two tapes)

Video content - To commemorate the 50"' anniversary of the high school field, the Massillon Tiger Booster
Club initiated a community-wide effort to fund the installation of Omni Sand Turf, new lights, new P.A. sound and a
new track surface in Paul Brown Tiger Stadium. The work started in March and was completed in July: just in time
for the Ohio High School All-Star game. This two volume video makes it possible to witness the entire $400,000
project in detail from start to finish.

1996 Penn State & Tiger Swing Band (Game #6, Friday Oct 4)

Video contents - The Nittany Lions of Pennsylvania drove directly to Columbus for their football
game with Ohio State. But their marching entertainment - The Penn State Blue Band - took a detour
through Massillon on Friday night to perform with the Tiger Swing Band in Paul Brown Tiger Stadium
during the game with the Warriors of Walsh Jesuit high school. The band's appearance was appreciated by
the usual rabid tiger fans and helped transform another exciting Massillon game into a college level
atmosphere. This video captures that memorable night for all marching band fans to enjoy again and again.
And for the football fans there are highlights of the game. A list of major events seen are as follows:

a) Pregame marching performances by both bands.
b) 30 exciting game plays.
c) Halftime shows by both bands including the final when both bands mesh to play a stirring rendition
of "Dance To The Music."
d) Several spirited musical interludes by Penn State from the stands during the game.
e) Postgame music by both bands in concert formation concluding with the renowned Penn State drum
drill.
f) A replay of the Penn State halftime show as seen through the cameras of the high school telecom

2005 Massillon Tigers Season 5 - set DVD Package

On Saturday December 3nd of 2005 the Massillon Tigers of Washington High School entered Fawcett stadium in Canton , Ohio to compete for the State Championship of Ohio. Their quest for the Championship did not materialize but the 15 -week gridiron season brought many exciting moments and several memorable team FIRST's.

A few exciting moments were: a critical 4th & 14 first down play against St. Ignatius during the winning drive; a surprising 3rd & 30 first down play to help defeat St. Edward and a thrilling payback victory against arch-rival Canton McKinley.

Some memorable FIRST's were: the first Tiger team to play 15 games; the first Tiger team to beat St. Ignatius; the first Tiger team to win 13-games and the first Tiger coach to take his team to a State Championship game during his first season as head coach.
