Bob Commings, following 42-14 defeat by Massillon in 1982

BOB COMMINGS, GlenOak coach and former head coach of Massillon, pulled no punches about his team’s performance Friday: “I want to crawl in a hole right now,”he told the Golden Eagles after the game. “ And I want you guys to all feel as miserable as I do. But tomorrow, we’re going to suck up our collective guts and then go out and win the Steel Valley Conference title, or whatever the hell league we’re playing in. (GlenOak plays in the Federal League.)

“Nick’s Night”

The season of 1982 marked the 25th anniversary year for Nick Vrotsos as an assistant coach for Massillon.   To honor him, head coach Mike Currence declared the Glenoak game as, "Nick's Night."     Coach Vrotsos was elated, declairing, "Hey, it's MY night!"   The coaching staff decided to let Nick call the first play on offence that night.   He call the deep pass, and the team was so determined to make good with that play that they scored a TD bomb on the opening play of the game.

H. Charles "Chuck" Hess, at the ripe old age of 14, was a regular halfback in 1918. The first time he ever carried the ball in a scholatic game he went for a touchdown against Uhrichsville. Later, he was picked to the all-time, all-star team at Lehigh University.

When Massillon met Akron North in 1922, Arvine (Tink) Ulrich scored touchdowns on runs of 40, 81 and 90 yards - in less than three minutes. Massillon humiliated the Rubber City boys, 94-0.
